Unakkaga Ellam Unakkaga – 1999

Director: Sundar C

Music Director: Yuvan Shankar Raja

Cast:
Karthik Muthuraman
Karthik, Goundamani, Rambha

Remember C Sundar’s rip-roaring comedy “Ullathai Allitha”. “Unakkaga Ellam Unakkaga” is just a clone of “Ullathai Allitha” but with more chutzpah and more funny situations put in.

There is nothing much to say about the plot of the movie but the director scores by creating many funny situations to maintain interest in the movie. And with Goundamani and Vivek carrying off their roles with some attitude, the viewer has no reason to complain. Karthik just seems to walk along his role as compared to the two comedians.

Karthik is the only son of a rich couple, Vinu Chakravarthy and Sachu. To control his extravagances, his parents decide to get him married. Meanwhile, Karthik runs into Rambha and falls in love with her. He adopts every trick in the book and outside it, with able help from his uncle, Goundamani, to reject the girl of his parent’s choice because he wants to get married to Rambha. And in the end it turns out that Rambha was the girl selected by Karthik’s parents to marry him.

Goundamani playacting like a terrorist and the scenes where Vivek gets hen-pecked by his wife Anju are real rib-ticklers.

Music by Yuvan Shankar Raja is just adequate and follows the style of compositions in “Ullathai Allitha”. After listening to the melodies in “Poovellam Kaettupar”, Yuvan’s scores in this movie are a big disappointment.
